What is the difference between 321 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel Sheets?

The difference between 321 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel sheets lies mainly in the composition, which significantly affects its properties. Both 321 and 304 are austenitic grades of stainless steel; that is to say, they contain high levels of nickel and chromium–but 321 contains a higher amount at 17-20% nickel, while grade 304 only has 8-10.5%. At first glance, this may not seem like a big difference, but it does affect the material in several ways. Comparing 321 vs. 304 stainless steel sheets, there are some key points one should consider: Their corrosion resistance is almost identical; however, the formation of chlorides enhances corrosion risks when using grade 321; It can handle extremes of hotter temps without losing structural integrity; it offers greater yield/strength under applied stress conditions; And lastly, welders need special precautions when welding thicker gauge sections due cooling rate being faster than that found on mild steel grades.

What are the properties of SS 304 sheet?

SS 304 is an alloy of iron and chromium that has become one of the most popular alloys used in industrial applications. It contains a minimum of 18% chromium, 8% nickel, and a maximum of 0.08% carbon by weight. This makes it incredibly strong and corrosion-resistant without sacrificing formability or machinability. SS 304 sheets have great mechanical properties, including tensile strength, yield strength, elongation (stretch before break), hardness (Brinell scale), as well as excellent abrasion resistance due to their high levels of chromium and low carbon content. Its high-temperature resistance can be important for certain processes where the material could reach 800°C or higher temperatures during operation. In addition to its strength and durability, SS 304 sheet has impressive aesthetics, which make it suitable for architectural projects such as railings, trim pieces like handles or cabinet pulls, etc., as well as interior design purposes such as countertops, sinks/basins, etc.

What are the dimensions and thicknesses available for SS 304 sheet?

Stainless steel 304 sheets come in a dizzying array of sizes and thicknesses. These sheets are available in widths ranging from 36" to 60" with thicknesses from .022" to .1875". There is also the option for custom-cut sizes for those with special projects. Specialty metals like these sheets are designed to last, featuring superior strength, aesthetics, toughness, and fabrication abilities. With many different sizes and shapes of upholstery options available, they serve a bevy of commercial and residential applications. If you need stainless steel sheeting that can withstand different temperatures, corrosion, and rust, SS 304 sheet should be your top choice!

Possible Alternative Grades
Possible alternative grades to grade 304 stainless steels are given in table 5.

Possible alternative grades to 304 grade stainless steel
Grade Why it might be chosen instead of 304
301L A higher work hardening rate grade is required for certain roll formed or stretch formed components.
302HQ Lower work hardening rate is needed for cold forging of screws, bolts and rivets.
303 Higher machinability needed, and the lower corrosion resistance, formability and weldability are acceptable.
316 Higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is required, in chloride environments
321 Better resistance to temperatures of around 600-900°C is needed…321 has higher hot strength.
3CR12 A lower cost is required, and the reduced corrosion resistance and resulting discolouration are acceptable.
430 A lower cost is required, and the reduced corrosion resistance and fabrication characteristics are acceptable.
